What a day! Left the Pioneer hotel in search of a recharger for my phone. Got one at Cingular in Bullshead City, along with a hands free device for my phone,. I now have one of those things for your ear that flashes blue. Safer for driving! Something else to recharge.
Another day in the desert. Slightly cooler, only 104 or so. Actually it was in the 90’s in some areas. Easier to handle. I decided to go to Hoover Dam because I never had. It was a beautiful drive up but I didn’t stop except to admire the views. There were many people and a sign that said,, “no pets” so we kept going. Had a delightful lunch in Boulder City. The restaurant had outdoor seating with misters. It was hot but comfortable and they served Curly too. A glass of Tempranillo and something like French Dip sandwich was my hot meal for the day. Drove past Lake Las Vegas Area, and into Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Beautiful! Changing vistas all along the way, the road was almost empty. The red rocks, Aztec Sandstone was magnificent. Thunderstorms rolled past, a few raindrops but I did see some lightening crack across the sky. Checked out Echo Bay campgrounds, the camping area, without hook ups was empty. The RV park was ugly and fairly full. Continued to Overton Beach campgrounds. My first RV park! Full hookup so I’m running the air conditioning, Nice lakeside spot with a view. Should sleep well tonight. Curly is already under the bed, he finds it coolest. Tonight my carbon monoxide detector went off, It beeped like crazy. I couldn’t find a way to turn it off. I opened all the doors and took a walk then asked a man for help, the only one I saw awake at 10 p.m.. Will, an ex cop in Newport and his friend Bob helped me out. It was a blanket pressing against the sensor, no problem at all. Sat with them and chatted. Nice guys, drinking and living on the river for the summer. About 220 miles today. Zion tomorrow!?
